Quick Start Guide

Follow these simple steps to set up your Trezor device and secure your cryptocurrency assets

1

Connect Your Device

Connect your Trezor hardware wallet to your computer using the provided USB cable. Ensure you're using the original cable for optimal performance and security.

The device screen will light up and display the Trezor logo. If this is your first time using the device, you'll need to initialize it through the setup process.

2

Install Trezor Suite

Download and install Trezor Suite from the official website. This desktop application provides the interface for managing your cryptocurrency assets securely.

Trezor Suite is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The application will guide you through the initial device setup and firmware installation process.

3

Initialize & Backup

Follow the on-screen instructions to initialize your device. You'll be prompted to create a new wallet or recover an existing one using your recovery seed.

Write down your recovery seed on the provided card and store it in a secure location. This seed is essential for recovering your funds if your device is lost or damaged.

4

Secure & Use

Set up a PIN code for your device. This adds an additional layer of security and prevents unauthorized access even if someone physically has your Trezor.

Once setup is complete, you can start receiving and sending cryptocurrencies, exploring DeFi applications, and managing your digital asset portfolio securely.

Detailed instructions to ensure your Trezor device is properly configured and secured

Initial Device Connection

Begin by connecting your Trezor device to your computer using the supplied USB cable. For Trezor Model T, you may need to use a USB-C to USB-A adapter if your computer doesn't have a USB-C port. Ensure you're using the official Trezor cable to guarantee proper data transfer and power delivery.

The device screen will display the Trezor logo and enter bootloader mode. If this is a brand new device, you'll proceed with the initialization process. If you're recovering an existing wallet, you'll have the option to restore from your recovery seed during this stage.

Firmware Installation

Trezor Suite will automatically detect your connected device and check for firmware updates. It's crucial to install the latest firmware to ensure you have the most recent security patches and feature improvements. The firmware installation process typically takes 2-3 minutes and should not be interrupted.

During firmware installation, your device screen will display progress indicators. Do not disconnect the device during this process. Once complete, your Trezor will restart and be ready for wallet setup. Firmware updates are signed by SatoshiLabs to prevent tampering and ensure authenticity.

Wallet Creation & Backup

Choose between creating a new wallet or recovering an existing one. For new users, select "Create New Wallet." Your device will generate a unique 12 or 24-word recovery seed. Write these words down in exact order on the provided recovery card using a permanent marker.

Never store your recovery seed digitally or take photos of it. The recovery card should be stored in multiple secure locations, such as a safe or safety deposit box. After writing down your seed, you'll be asked to verify it by selecting the words in correct order on your device screen.

PIN & Security Setup

Set up a PIN code for your device. The PIN matrix displayed on your Trezor screen is randomized each time, preventing keyloggers from capturing your PIN. Choose a PIN that's easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess, typically 4-9 digits in length.

Additional security features include passphrase protection (advanced users), which creates a hidden wallet, and Shamir Backup for distributing recovery responsibility. Enable these features based on your security needs and technical comfort level. Your device is now ready to securely manage your cryptocurrency assets.
